Former South African Star bowler Vernon Philander’s younger brother, 32-year-old Tyrone Philander was found shot dead near his home in Cape Town yesterday (7).
Local police said members of the Philander family were washing in the yard of their Ravensmead home when they heard gunshots. Captain FC van Wyk, the Western Cape police spokesperson stated that the shooting incident took place at about 1.10 pm. The shorter is still on the run and the investigations are being carried out.
Philander shared a statement on behalf of the family on Thursday (today) and asked for their privacy to be respected.’ Our family is coming to terms with the brutal murder in my hometown of Ravensmead earlier today. I would like to ask that the family’s privacy be respected during this difficult time,” he further said.
Philander was considered as one of the best test fast bowlers of the past decade. In 64 test matches, he had 224 scalps while in 30 ODI’s he grabbed 41 wickets in 30 matches. Philander retired from international cricket in January.
